WIN 10 PRO x64 HP E709N INSTALLATION/SCANNER PROBLEM FIXED
After much trial and error and many many installs and uninstalls including one install message that USB 3.0 was not
supported (which was incorrect), I decided to try installing the original Win 7
CD which came with the printer using Win 7 compatibility. I uninstalled again including using the HP Scrubber program
and tried installing the
Win 7 CD but the installation said there was a later version already installed and stopped which caused me to suspect
that the registry
contained some older HP keys. So I edited the registry using Regedit, using Find and deleted all possible registry
KEYS which contain "hewlet" (note that some entries cannot be removed).
The following are 2 examples of HP registry KEYS and associated data:
{9CB4695F-9DF6-4BB5-8848-EF836F319876} | (Default) | REG_SZ | Hewlett-Packard Cue Tray Application 1.0
where {9CB4695F-9DF6-4BB5-8848-EF836F319876} is the KEY to be deleted.
and
{00063F10-98C8-4C5A-9E3D-1A1AD2FA076A}
InprocServer32
(Default) | REG_SZ | C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Hewlwtt-Packard\Scanjet\hpgscnsv.dll
InprocServer32 | REG_MULTI_SZ | .................
ThreadingModel | REG_SZ | .................
where {00063F10-98C8-4C5A-9E3D-1A1AD2FA076A} is the KEY to be deleted.
I then installed the full Win 10 E709n package with USB connection (I deferred actually connecting the
USB connect until after I rebooted...I don't know if this deferral is necessary); NOW EVERYTHING WORKS PROPERLY!
The HP scrubber program does not remove all the old HP printer registry KEYS; HP should fix the SCRUBBER
problem and repair the installation program.
NOTE: This kind of "fix" may also apply to similar problems with other HP printers and other printer brands.
I suspect that many Win 10 hardware and possibly software problems may be caused by old registry entries especially
if Win 10 was not installed as a "clean install".
PLEASE LET ME KNOW VIA THE CONTACT PAGE IF YOU TRY THE ABOVE TECHNIQUE AND IT WORKS FOR YOU!
